CORONARY PROGRAMS
Coronary programs give interventional cardiologists experience with the latest hands-on technologies and help build confidence when coping with challenging situations that occur in daily practice. Crossroads programs promote best practice at all levels of expertise and programs such as the Institute-in-a-Box involving the whole cath lab team with the aim of improving patient outcomes.
Executive Fellowship Program
- Aimed at physicians with one to two years’ experience (depending on the country)
- Three or four modules to be completed over a period of 4 to 12 months; Institute or locally based
- Content includes:
- Module 1: “The Virtual PCI” (1.5 days)
- Module 2: “The Real World of PCIs: complex cases” (1.5 days)
- Module 3: “The Real World of PCIs: at risk cases and the essentials of
medical statistics" (1 day)
- Module 4: Cath Lab (1 day, optional)
Clinical and Practical Aspects of Complex Lesions
- Aimed at physicians who perform > 50 PCIs / year as primary operator
- Two modules of 1.5 days each to be completed over a period of 2 to 3 months (one Institute or locally based, the other at Center of Excellence's cath lab)
- Content includes:
- bifurcation and left main stenting;
- multi-vessel disease (MVD);
- long lesions (LL);
- small vessels (SV);
- the role of DES in these lesions and the impact of diabetes on treatment options, indications and patient outcomes
Clinical and Practical Aspects of Chronic Total Occlusions (CTOs)
- Aimed at experienced physicians who perform > 100 PCIs / year as primary operator
- Two modules of 1.5 days each to be completed over a period of 2 to 3 months (one Institute or locally based, the other at Center of Excellence's cath lab)
- Content includes:
- definition and prevalence of the disease;
- anatomy and morphology of CTOs;
- patient preparation and outcome / benefit;
- hands-on practice at wire techniques
Best Practice in Management of AMI / ACS
- Aimed at specific interventional cardiologists treating AMI / ACS patients
- Full day program, Institute or locally based
- Discussion forum on how to improve and organize primary PCI for AMI / ACS patients. Content will be tailored to local needs and environment
Best Practice in Prevention and Management of Complications
- Aimed at physicians at all levels of experience
- Full day program, Institute or locally based
- Clinical Case Reviews with interactive discussions covering:
- subacute thrombosis, major causes;
- slow-flow, no-reflow;
- prevention and treatment;
- stent malpositioning and consequences;
- coronary vessel rupture;
- renal insufficiency post PCI etc.
Institute-in-a-Box: Modular Programs for Nurses and Cathlab Staff
- Aimed at nurses, technicians, pharmacists, purchasers and others, upon whom patient outcomes depend
- Modular programs in English or local language
- Modules cover many topics including:
- Coronary anatomy and angiographic views
- PCI: history and disease
- PCI and stenting, guide catheters, balloon catheters
- Guide wire design, guide wire strategy
- Stent basics, drug eluting stents
- Clinical trials
- Acute Myocardial Infarction
